About Once Upon a Time in Mumbaai
Once Upon a Time in Mumbaai follows Sultan Mirza, played by Ajay Devgn, and Shoaib Khan, played by Emraan Hashmi, in 1970s Mumbai. Milan Luthria directed for Balaji with Kangana Ranaut and Prachi Desai in support. The sequel named Once Upon ay Time in Mumbai Dobaara follows Shoaib as don in the 1980s.
The sequel recasts Shoaib with Akshay Kumar and adds Imran Khan with Sonakshi Sinha. It moved from August 8 to August 15, 2013 to avoid Chennai Express, then flopped near 92 crore on an 85 crore budget. No third film was ordered, so the two films are the full run.
Good to know
Watch the 2010 film, then the 2013 sequel. Part 1 ends with Shoaib killing Sultan, part 2 opens with Shoaib reigning, so order matters. The extra y and a in the sequel title come from numerology and do not signal a reboot. Both films run over two hours, so plan two evenings. Chronology matches release here.
