About Penny Marshall
Penny Marshall directed Jumpin' Jack Flash in 1986, then Big in 1988 with Tom Hanks as a boy in a man's body. Awakenings followed in 1990 and A League of Their Own in 1992, back to back pictures about care and teamwork.
Renaissance Man arrived in 1994, The Preacher's Wife in 1996 and Riding in Cars with Boys in 2001, her last feature. Watch in release order. The films stand alone, but the warm ensemble craft builds from the 1980s comedies into the 1990s dramas. Hanks, De Niro and Madonna lead the peaks across the run.
Good to know
There is no shared continuity, so no chronological order exists. Big, Awakenings and A League of Their Own make the clearest core. The run closed with Riding in Cars with Boys in 2001, seventeen years before Marshall's death in 2018. Start with Big for the comedy peak, then Awakenings for the dramatic turn.
