About Pete Docter
Pete Docter directed Monsters Inc in 2001 about Sulley and Boo doors. Up followed in 2009 floating Carl to the falls, then Inside Out in 2015 mapping Riley with Joy. Soul arrived in 2020 with Joe tasting the zone.
The films share doors to feelings but no plots link at all. Each runs warm and high concept on purpose. Release order shows his Toy Story writing roots widening to souls with the same wonder intact throughout. The door bells and balloon strings carry every feeling with lift. The scout badges and jazz clubs fill every feeling with lift.

Watch oldest to newest since each feeling resets its world. Monsters first sets the door base for the run. Up and Inside pair as his peak bookends to give full focus. Soul closes as the jazz turn.
