The Curse of the Black Pearl opened July 9, 2003, turned a theme park ride into Johnny Depp's Jack Sparrow and took $654 million. Dead Man's Chest (2006) and At World's End (2007) closed the Will Turner trilogy, On Stranger Tides (2011) sailed off on its own with Penelope Cruz, and Dead Men Tell No Tales (May 26, 2017) finished at $795.9 million, the lowest of the five.
A sixth film has been in development since 2017. At D23 on August 16, 2026 Bruckheimer said the studio is working on a screenplay and that Depp is in talks to return, while Deadline reports Margot Robbie's character leads and Sparrow is a side role.
Good to know
There is only one order. Each film follows the one before it, and On Stranger Tides, which looks like a prequel because it is a standalone, still runs after At World's End. No title, director or date exists for the sixth film as of September 2026, so treat any release window you see as speculation rather than a schedule.
