Poltergeist Watch Order

All of Poltergeist in order: the 1982 classic, its two sequels, the four-season Legacy series, and the 2015 remake. One Freeling trilogy plus two standalone takes, so release order carries the family story straight through.

About Poltergeist

Poltergeist from 1982 traps the Freeling family in a suburb built on graves, with five-year-old Carol Anne pulled through the TV static. Produced by Spielberg and directed by Tobe Hooper, it became the eighth biggest film of 1982 and a haunted-house landmark.

The Other Side followed in 1986 and Poltergeist III in 1988, closing the Freeling story as Carol Anne actress Heather O'Rourke died that year. The Legacy TV series ran four seasons from 1996 to 1999 in its own continuity, and Gil Kenan's 2015 remake retold the original. Watch the trilogy in order, treat Legacy as a side trip, and take the remake last.

Good to know

Release order works because the trilogy tells one Freeling story and everything else stands apart. The Legacy series follows a paranormal society with no Freeling connection, so it plays as optional viewing between the trilogy and the remake. The 2015 film remakes the original rather than continuing it. Nothing new has been announced, so the run is complete.
