About The Raid
The Raid premiered at TIFF in September 2011 and reached the US in March 2012 as Redemption, with Rama fighting up a Jakarta block. The Raid 2 premiered at Sundance in January 2014 and follows hours later as Rama goes undercover against crime families and corrupt police. Both were directed by Gareth Evans with silat by Iko Uwais and Yayan Ruhian.
A third Rama film has no script or date, with Evans calling it a definite maybe in 2025. A US reimagining at Netflix with Patrick Hughes and Michael Bay was announced in 2022 set in Philadelphia, with script work ongoing in March 2026 but no cast or shoot. The guide lists two released films plus two development slots.
Good to know
Watch the 2011 film then the 2014 sequel, since the second assumes you know the tower outcome. Use 2011 for the first film despite the 2012 US release, and expect the Redemption subtitle only on US prints. The Raid 2 grew from a separate Berandal draft, which explains its longer crime saga shape. Treat the Netflix project as a reimagining rather than Raid 3, with a new city and cast once dated.
