About Roy Ward Baker
Roy Ward Baker moved into horror after solid 1950s dramas including A Night to Remember, starting with Quatermass and the Pit in 1967 for Hammer. That buried spacecraft story stays his most respected genre film, built on slow pace and strong ensemble acting. The Anniversary followed in 1968, a Bette Davis black comedy that shows his range outside monsters.
The core run pairs Hammer vampire pictures The Vampire Lovers and Scars of Dracula, both from 1970, with the gender swap horror of Dr. Jekyll and Sister Hyde in 1971. Then come the Amicus anthologies Asylum in 1972 and The Vault of Horror in 1973, closed by the later anthology The Monster Club in 1981. Watch in release order, since each film stands alone and the sequence tracks his shift from gothic horror to portmanteau storytelling.
Good to know
Every entry here stands alone, so there is no chronological order to untangle and release order is the viewing order. This is a starter selection, not a complete filmography, and it skips his television work and straight dramas. The Legend of the 7 Golden Vampires from 1974 is the clear next step for completists. Baker died in 2010, so this run is complete and no new entries are expected.
