About Salem's Lot
Salem's Lot tracks writer Mears returning to Jerusalem's Lot as vampire Barlow spreads through the town. The 1979 miniseries runs two parts with Straker antiques, Return in 1987 follows new families with the town ruined, and the 2024 film remakes the original with Lewis Pullman in a shorter runtime.
Watch the 1979 version first for the Marsten House rules before the remake condenses them. Return works as a side sequel rather than a direct Mears continuation, so expect new faces there. No fourth Lot has been dated, which leaves the three screen tells as the set with the town burned by design.
Good to know
Release order keeps bite reveals intact with Marsten first and remake last. The 1979 cut runs longest with TV pacing, so prefer the 184 minute version where available. Return plays campier with hunter lore, which lands better after Hooper dread. Treat the 2024 remake as an alternate start for new viewers after the original rather than a replacement.
