Sony Pictures Animation began with Open Season (2006) and Surf's Up (2007), then found long running series in Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs (2009) and Hotel Transylvania (2012). The sequels Cloudy 2 (2013), Hotel Transylvania 2 (2015) and Hotel Transylvania 3 (2018) kept those worlds going while the studio tested new styles.
The recent run pairs the Spider-Verse films, Into the Spider-Verse (2018) and Across the Spider-Verse (2023), with Netflix originals The Mitchells vs. the Machines (2021), Vivo (2021) and KPop Demon Hunters (2025). Each series stands alone, so release order is simply a tour of how the studio moved from broad comedy to bold comic book visuals.
Good to know
These are separate series under one studio, so no chronological reorder across films is needed. Watch each series in release order, especially Hotel Transylvania and Spider-Verse where jokes and cliffhangers carry over. The Angry Birds films are left out because the first is a Rovio production, and hybrid Smurfs and side sequels are skipped to keep this a representative studio guide.
