About Taken
Bryan Mills (Liam Neeson), a retired CIA operative, crosses Europe to rescue his kidnapped daughter in Taken (2008), a lean hit that turned Neeson into an action lead in his fifties. Taken 2 (2012) flips the setup in Istanbul, where Mills and his wife become the hostages, and Taken 3 (2014) drops the kidnapping formula to frame Mills for murder in Los Angeles.
Release order matches story order, and the three films form a closed trilogy. No fourth film is in development, so one short list covers everything.
Good to know
Taken 3 premiered December 16, 2014 and reached the US on January 9, 2015, so some sources list it as a 2015 film. NBC aired a prequel series, Taken (2017-2018), with Clive Standen as a young Mills; it ran two seasons before cancellation and is optional viewing. Neeson has repeatedly said a fourth film is not happening.
