About The Black Phone
The Black Phone is a two film horror series from Scott Derrickson and C. Robert Cargill based on Joe Hill's story. The Black Phone from 2021 follows Finney Blake, a boy locked in the Grabber's basement who takes calls from past victims on a dead phone. Black Phone 2 from October 2025 brings back Finney and Gwen as the Grabber's shadow reaches a new town.
The sequel continues directly from the first film's survivors, so release order is the viewing order. Watch the 2021 original before the 2025 follow up for every callback to land. The pair plays as one survivor story across two chapters with no spinoffs between them.
Good to know
Watch the 2021 film before Black Phone 2 from 2025, since the sequel builds on Finney and Gwen's survival directly. The Grabber's basement rules carry over, so the original's phone logic matters. Both films run under two hours, making a double feature easy. Two films in release order complete the series so far, with no shorts or spinoffs to place.
