About The Conjuring Universe
James Wan's The Conjuring took over $320 million in 2013 and the universe grew outward from Ed and Lorraine Warren: two Annabelle films, two Nun films, The Curse of La Llorona, and three more Conjuring entries. Last Rites, out September 5, 2025, was billed as the finale and instead earned a franchise best $487 million worldwide. Warner counts nine films, leaving La Llorona out.
The story order is the mirror image of the release order, opening in 1952 Romania and ending in 1986. Warner followed Last Rites with The Conjuring: First Communion, a prequel with a new pair playing the Warrens.
Good to know
Release order is the recommendation, since the prequels give away the origins of things the earlier films present as mysteries. Dating is genuinely disputed: Warner's own timeline puts Annabelle: Creation in 1955 while other guides say 1958, which shuffles it against The Nun II, set in 1956. The Curse of La Llorona shares Father Perez and Annabelle but is rarely counted.
