About The Equalizer
The Equalizer is a three film action series starring Denzel Washington as Robert McCall, a retired operative who protects the helpless. The Equalizer from 2014 sets McCall against Russian gangsters for a young girl. The Equalizer 2 from 2018 turns the threat personal, and The Equalizer 3 from 2023 moves him to Italy against the Camorra.
Each film stands alone, but McCall's past and injuries accumulate, so release order is the viewing order. Watch the trilogy 2014 to 2023 before the separate Queen Latifah TV reboot, which is a different continuity. Three films in sequence cover McCall's full arc.
Good to know
Watch the three films in release order from 2014 through 2018 to 2023, since McCall's wounds and ties build across chapters. The TV reboot with Queen Latifah is a separate continuity covered in its own guide, so keep it apart. Each film pairs one protected innocent with one criminal network. Three films in sequence complete the Denzel trilogy.
