About The Mummy
The Sommers run starts with The Mummy in 1999, where Rick O'Connell and Evelyn wake Imhotep at Hamunaptra, and continues with The Mummy Returns in 2001, which introduces the Scorpion King. The Scorpion King from 2002 spins Mathayus off into his own prequel, followed by four direct-to-video sequels between 2008 and 2015 with new casts. The Tomb of the Dragon Emperor from 2008 moves Rick and Alex to China against a new emperor.
Two reboots stand apart. The Mummy from 2017 with Tom Cruise was built as a Dark Universe launch and shares nothing with the Sommers films. Lee Cronin's The Mummy from April 2026 is also fully standalone, a horror story about a returned missing girl, and its makers stressed no connection to earlier films. A fourth Fraser film is dated October 15, 2027.
Good to know
Watch the Sommers films in release order and treat everything else as optional. The Scorpion King works after Returns since it was made as Mathayus backstory, while the four DTV sequels are skippable unless completism calls. Both reboots can be watched at any point because neither shares characters with the Sommers run. The 2027 date belongs to the Fraser reunion film, so expect this list to grow once it releases.
