About The Purge
The Purge films imagine an America where all crime is legal for one night a year. The 2013 original is a home invasion story with Ethan Hawke, Anarchy from 2014 takes it to the streets with Frank Grillo, and Election Year from 2016 brings Grillo back to guard an anti-Purge senator. The First Purge from 2018 rewinds to the Staten Island experiment that started it all.
The USA series ran two seasons from 2018 to 2019 and sits between Anarchy and Election Year in story, following new characters across Purge nights in 2027 and beyond. The Forever Purge from 2021 closes the current run with outlaws who refuse to stop when the siren ends. A sixth film has been discussed by James DeMonaco but carries no date.
Good to know
Release order is the recommended first watch, since The First Purge assumes you know what the experiment leads to. Chronological order only moves that prequel to the front and slots the series between Anarchy and Election Year. The show was cancelled in 2020 after two seasons and is optional, since no film depends on it. Treat the Forever Purge as the current endpoint until a sixth film gets a real date.
