About Toy Story
Toy Story follows Woody, Buzz Lightyear, and their fellow toys as they change owners, face obsolescence, and keep choosing loyalty to their kid. Four films trace that arc from 1995 to 2019, with Woody leaving the gang at the end of Toy Story 4.
Toy Story 5 arrived June 19, 2026, reuniting Woody and Buzz against Lilypad, a smart tablet competing for Bonnie's attention. Lightyear (2022) sits outside this arc: it is a side story, the in-universe space movie that made Andy want a Buzz toy in the first place.
Good to know
Lightyear is optional. It does not continue Woody and Buzz's story and no later film references its plot, so skip it without losing the thread or watch it any time after the 1995 original.
Toy Story 5 is directed by Andrew Stanton and released theatrically June 19, 2026 per Disney and Pixar. No sixth film has been announced, so the series rests here for now.
