About Tron

Tron starts in 1982 with Kevin Flynn pulled inside the computer to face the Master Control Program, a landmark for early CGI. Legacy in 2010 follows his son Sam back onto the Grid with Quorra against Clu, scored by Daft Punk. Ares from October 2025 flips the direction: a Program played by Jared Leto crosses into the real world, with Jeff Bridges returning as Flynn.

Legacy director Kosinski calls Ares more parallel story than direct sequel, since it borrows his unmade Ascension ideas from a new angle. Release order still works because each film reintroduces the Grid. The Uprising animated series from 2012 sits between the first two films as an optional branch, and both older films got 4K remasters ahead of Ares.

Good to know

Release order is story order closely enough for one list. Ares assumes passing familiarity with Flynn and Clu but re-explains the Grid, so it works after Legacy without homework. Uprising fits between Tron and Legacy in story yet was made for viewers who know both, so save it for after Legacy. No fourth film has a date despite talk, which keeps the three films complete for now.
