About Val Guest
Val Guest moved Hammer into science fiction with The Quatermass Xperiment in 1955, shot like a news report from the Nigel Kneale serial. Quatermass 2 followed in 1957, then The Abominable Snowman the same year, also from Kneale. The Camp on Blood Island came in 1958 as a prisoner of war drama.
Expresso Bongo arrived in 1959 as a music business satire with Cliff Richard, then Hell Is a City in 1960 as a Manchester crime picture. The Day the Earth Caught Fire came in 1961 and won Guest a BAFTA for screenplay with Wolf Mankowitz. When Dinosaurs Ruled the Earth closed the pick in 1970. Guest died in 2006, so this run is closed. Good to know
These are standalone stories with no shared continuity, except that Quatermass 2 continues the Quatermass idea after The Quatermass Xperiment. Release order matches story order closely enough for a first pass. The Day the Earth Caught Fire is the centerpiece, and plays best in the restored print. When Dinosaurs Ruled the Earth uses stop motion by Jim Danforth. The run is complete. Guest died in May 2006.
