About Vernon Sewell
Vernon Sewell spent four decades in British B pictures, often shooting fast with small casts and real locations. This selection opens with the gentle haunting comedy The Ghosts of Berkeley Square, then his sea ghost story Ghost Ship, shot partly on his own yacht. The middle pair shows his crime peak: The Man in the Back Seat and Strongroom, both lean night long suspense pieces with Derren Nesbitt.
The list closes with his late horror double, The Blood Beast Terror and Curse of the Crimson Altar, made for Tigon with Peter Cushing, Christopher Lee and Boris Karloff in the cast. Release order is the viewing order here. The films do not connect, but seen in sequence they trace a clear line from postwar comedy to sharp crime to gothic horror.
Good to know
Sewell directed more than thirty features, so this is a highlights route rather than a full filmography. Strongroom from 1962 is widely seen as his most complete thriller, while Ghost Ship shows his yachting life feeding directly into the plot. The two 1968 horror titles play best as a closing double bill. Watch in the order listed, since each story is self contained and release order tracks his changing budgets and casts.
