Gainsborough authority farces.

About Will Hay

Will Hay stars as incompetent authority with Moore Marriott and Graham Moffatt across Gainsborough comedies. Those Were the Days from 1934 sets Victorian school chaos. Boys Will Be Boys from 1935 and Good Morning Boys from 1937 continue with classroom tricks to 3 million tickets.

Oh Mr Porter from 1937, Ask a Policeman from 1939, Where's That Fire from 1939 and Black Sheep of Whitehall from 1942 close with station and war gags. No further Hay run was made after his 1949 death, so the nineteen films form the set with diplomas dodged.

Good to know

Watch the nineteen in release order since Hay schools, stations and police posts carry over in spirit directly. Later films assume you know the S1 stammer and Marriott beard from early classes. Jobs reset each film but the underdog win builds throughout. Treat the 1943 sheep as the planned close with no further Hay dated.
