About The Diplomat
The Diplomat follows ambassador Kate Wyler, played by Keri Russell, through a carrier attack and its fallout. Season 1 from April 2023 sets up the London posting and the Hal marriage strain. Season 2 from October 2024 adds Allison Janney as Vice President Penn and ends on the president's death. Season 3 from October 2025 with Bradley Whitford covers the succession scramble.
Season 4 arrived in 2026 after Netflix renewed ahead of season 3. Debora Cahn created the series. Each season ends on a constitutional cliffhanger that the next premiere answers within minutes, so shuffling breaks the tension logic.
Good to know
Watch seasons 1 through 4 in order, since the carrier plot, the Penn accusation and the succession all chain together tightly. The show is TV-MA political thriller with dense jargon throughout. Each finale sets the next premiere within minutes. No fifth season has been announced, so season 4 is the current endpoint.
