About The Outer Limits

The Outer Limits (1963 to 1965) is the thinking viewer's anthology: 49 ABC episodes of hard science fiction opened by the Control voice, from The Galaxy Being to Demon with a Glass Hand. The 1995 revival runs seven seasons on Showtime and Sci-Fi with new stories and occasional sequels.

Every episode stands alone in both runs, so there is no required path: start with the famous originals, then sample the revival's peaks (The Sandkings, Afterlife). The revival remakes a few originals directly, which plays best with the originals fresh. The show's control-voice framing is the shared ritual across decades.

Good to know

The original's second season shifted to serialized-ish arcs under network pressure, which fans debate: the first season is the consensus peak. The revival's seven seasons vary widely, with the early Showtime years strongest. A few revival episodes sequel the originals explicitly (I, Robot returns). No new revival has been announced since 2002, so the two runs are the set.
