About Parks and Recreation
Parks and Recreation aired on NBC from April 2009 to February 2015. It follows Leslie Knope and the Pawnee parks department from a small pit-filling project through harvest festivals, city council races and a move to the National Park Service. The final season jumps to 2017 and ends with flash-forwards showing where each character lands decades later.
A 30-minute reunion special, A Parks and Recreation Special, aired April 30, 2020 with the cast appearing as their characters over video chat during lockdown. It raised money for food banks and stands outside continuity as a charity reunion.
Good to know
Season one is only six episodes and feels different, with Leslie written harsher than later. Push through to season two where the show finds its voice, since everything from that point builds directly. Watch the 2020 special last as a reunion rather than part of the story, since its present-day setting does not fit the finale timeline.
