About Rita
Rita follows Rita Madsen, a forthright schoolteacher in Denmark who connects easily with her students and clashes with almost every adult around her. The show ran for 40 episodes across five seasons, starting on TV 2 on 9 February 2012 and ending on 20 July 2020. Netflix co-produced seasons 3 through 5, which brought the show to viewers outside Denmark.
Each season has eight episodes and the story moves forward in time, so watch them in broadcast order. Season 4 introduces Hjørdis, the shy teacher who earned her own spin-off series Hjørdis in 2015. The fifth season closes Rita's story and no sixth season has been announced.
Good to know
Release order and story order are the same list for Rita, so there is no separate chronological order worth giving. The seasons aired years apart but the plot follows them in sequence, with no prequels or time jumps to work around. If you want more after season 5, the short spin-off Hjørdis (2015) follows Rita's colleague and slots between seasons 3 and 4.
