About The Sandman
The Sandman runs two seasons on Netflix ending the Morpheus story, with season 2 closing as the farewell run. Dead Boy Detectives from 2024 follows Charles and Edwin's ghost agency for eight episodes in the same universe, moved over from Max with Gaiman aboard and Death cameoing. It was cancelled after one season despite top-ten charting.
Watch Sandman season 1 first. Dead Boy Detectives assumes the Endless rules known and touches Season of Mists territory the show had not reached, so it plays better with Morpheus established. Season 2 then closes Morpheus independently of the spinoff. The spinoff's Despair tease never pays off due to cancellation.
Good to know
Sandman season 1, then Dead Boy Detectives, then Sandman season 2. The spinoff was built for Doom Patrol continuity first and retrofitted to Sandman, which explains its loose fit. Its Death appearance needs no setup beyond season 1's episode about her. Season 2 adapts past where the spinoff sits, so order between them matters less than having season 1 first for both.
