About Sons of Anarchy
Sons of Anarchy ran seven seasons on FX from 2008 to 2014, following Jax Teller's rise through SAMCRO in Charming as the club's gun business collides with his father's manuscript. Mayans M.C. continues the same universe from 2018 to 2023 across five seasons, set about two and a half years after Jax's story with EZ Reyes prospecting the Santo Padre charter on the California-Mexico border.
Release order is story order: Mayans assumes Jax's ending and reuses clubs, charters and grudges from it. The Mayans were rivals turned allies in the original, so their spinoff lands better once that history is known. Both shows are complete, with Mayans ending in July 2023, and no further spinoff has been announced.
Good to know
Watch all of Sons of Anarchy before Mayans. The spinoff opens in a post-Jax world and its club war in season 5 pulls SAMCRO back in directly. Chronology matches release here, so one list covers both. Kurt Sutter left Mayans after season 2, which explains the tone shift from season 3 onward. Treat the Mayans finale as the current endpoint of the whole universe.
