The OA Watch Order

Both parts of The OA in order: the eight-episode 2016 captivity mystery and the eight-episode 2019 dimension-hopping Part II. Cancelled on a cliffhanger after 16 episodes, so air order is the only way the mystery works.

About The OA

The OA opens with Prairie Johnson returning blind no longer after seven years missing, telling captivity stories to win help for a rescue. Created by Brit Marling and Zal Batmanglij, the first season ran eight episodes from December 2016 as a slow mystery about belief itself.

Part II from March 2019 jumps dimensions into a detective story on the same events, ending on a meta cliffhanger meant to launch three more parts. Netflix cancelled it there despite fan campaigns. Watch both parts in order. Part II reframes everything in Part I, so the mystery only works seen straight through.

Good to know

Air order is the only order. Part II assumes total recall of Part I's captives, movements and names, and its final scene only lands with both parts fresh. New viewers should know the story stops mid-arc: the planned five parts never happened, and the ending is a genuine cliffhanger rather than a soft close. Watch it for the journey, not the resolution.
