About Azumanga Daioh
Azumanga Daioh follows Chiyo, Osaka, Sakaki and friends through three high school years in sketch form. The web shorts from 2000 run four minutes as an early promo, and the Very Short Movie from 2001 runs six minutes with the same cast. The Animation from 2002 runs 26 episodes or 130 segments across the full school line.
Watch the shorts first if completist, then the TV run straight through. The TV alone covers the complete story, so casual viewers can start there without harm. Sketches reset each part with graduation as the only true arc.
Good to know
Release order matches story order with the shorts acting as pilots outside timeline. The TV run mixes deadpan school talk with wild daydreams in broadcast flow. With no sequel announced, the shorts plus TV form the full animated set to pair with the four panel books. J.C.Staff animated the TV series. Kiyohiko Azuma wrote the original four panel manga.
