About Danganronpa
Danganronpa on screen adapts the killing game visual novels in two bursts. Lerche animated the first game as 13 episodes in summer 2013, following Makoto through the Hope's Peak trial loop. Danganronpa 3 from summer 2016 splits into the 11 episode Despair prequel about class 77-B and the 12 episode Future sequel about the Future Foundation, closing with the single Hope special that September.
The 2016 arcs aired interleaved weekly, but watching all of Despair before Future keeps the class past straight. The 2017 Komaeda OVA bundles with the V3 game as a bonus. The games have their own guide for the playable cases. No new anime is announced.
Good to know
Watch the 2013 series first, then Despair, then Future, then Hope. Despair is a prequel that reframes every Future trial, so the prequel first order preserves the intended reveals better than broadcast interleave. Hope closes both arcs in one episode and must come last. The Komaeda OVA slots after Hope as a game bundled extra. Play the games first for full effect, though the anime stands alone.
