About Death Note
Death Note is a single 37-episode anime from 2006 to 2007 that adapts the full manga, so the path is short and linear. Light Yagami finds the notebook, L hunts Kira through the first half, and Near and Mello take over after the time skip for the second half.
Two recap films, Death Note: Relight 1 and 2, retell the same story from a Shinigami's view and add no new plot. Live action films from Japan (2006 to 2016) and the 2017 Netflix film are separate tellings of the same premise and work as optional extras.
Good to know
Watch episodes 1 through 37 in order and skip the Relight films on a first viewing, since they compress the same events without adding answers. The manga ending and the anime ending differ in small staging choices but reach the same outcome. Live action versions change rules and deaths, so keep them apart from the anime canon.
