Bayonetta is PlatinumGames' stylish action series about the Umbra Witch Cereza, running from 2009 to 2023. This play order follows release order, which suits the story, so a single list covers everything. Newcomers should start with the first game, which sets up everything the sequels build on.
Bayonetta 2 and 3 continue Cereza's story on Nintendo platforms, while Origins is a storybook-style prequel about her childhood. No new Bayonetta game has been announced.
Good to know
Series creator Hideki Kamiya left PlatinumGames in 2023 and said in May 2025 that he had planned a new chapter beyond Bayonetta 3; with his departure and that of Origins director Abebe Tinari, the series future is uncertain. Bayonetta (2009) launched in Japan in October 2009 and in the West in January 2010.
