About Devil May Cry
Devil May Cry follows Dante in a shuffled timeline that release order untangles best. The 2001 original opens the shop, the 2003 sequel jumps far ahead, the 2005 prequel rewinds to young Dante and Vergil, and 4 from 2008 plus 5 from 2019 continue the sons-of-Sparda saga to its reunion close.
The DmC reboot from 2013 sits in its own universe as an alternate take. Netflix's anime adds a separate track with season 1 from April 2025, season 2 from May 2026, and a third and final season renewed for the Force Edge Saga close with no date yet.
Good to know
Play in release order of 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, since the prequel lands harder once you know the brothers' future. Story order runs 3, 1, 4, 5 with 2 last, but that spoils the reveals the series paced for. The reboot and the Netflix anime stay separate tracks, so watch either any time after the 2005 prequel without continuity worry.
