Colin McRae Rally starts with the 1998 original on gravel with the Subaru years. Colin McRae Rally 2.0 followed in 2000, 3 in 2002, 04 in 2003 and 2005 in 2004, each widening cars and surfaces.
Colin McRae: Dirt arrived in 2007 rebranding the line, with Dirt 2 in 2009, Dirt 3 in 2011, Showdown in 2012, Dirt Rally in 2015, Dirt 4 in 2017, Dirt Rally 2.0 in 2019 and Dirt 5 in 2020. Play in release order. The handling moves from arcade to simulation and back, so the eras read best in sequence. The co-driver calls tighten with every generation.

Play in release order. Codemasters built the whole line with McRae consulting on the early entries. The Dirt rebrand keeps the same career spine, so treat it as a continuation rather than a reboot. No new entry had been announced as of October 2026, with Dirt 5 from 2020 the latest. The EA WRC license sits outside this line. Start with the 1998 original.
