About Grid

Race Driver: Grid from 2008 launches the series with touring cars, Le Mans prototypes and street circuits across the US, Europe and Japan. Grid 2 from 2013 trims the car list and leans into city sprints and story driven World Series Racing. Grid Autosport from 2014 answers fans who wanted stricter handling, splitting touring, open wheel, endurance and street disciplines into separate careers.

Grid from 2019 reboots the name with Fernando Alonso as consultant and a Nemesis system where AI rivals remember contact. Grid Legends from 2022 keeps that system and adds a filmed story mode plus larger cross platform events. Each game stands alone, so start with the 2008 original for the classic feel or Legends for the modern package.

Good to know

Release order works, but every Grid is a standalone season with no plot to follow. Grid 2 divides fans with its drift heavy handling, so purists often skip straight to Autosport. Legends got a Nintendo Switch 2 port in January 2026, which keeps the series active, though no sixth game is announced. The older TOCA Race Driver titles are the direct ancestors and are optional background.
