About Gran Turismo
Gran Turismo started December 1997 in Japan as a driving sim with license tests. Part 2 in 1999 doubled cars, part 3 in 2001 moved to PS2, and part 4 in 2004 added photo mode. Concept in 2002 and HD Concept in 2006 are short demos, not main entries.
Part 5 in 2010 added online, part 6 in 2013 closed PS3, Sport in 2017 went online focus, and part 7 in March 2022 is the current platform with Spec III and Power Pack in 2025. Older servers shut down in stages through 2024. No Gran Turismo 8 has been announced as of September 2026.
Good to know
There is no story order for a sim. Each numbered game replaces the last with more cars and tracks, so play the latest you own rather than the whole chain. Release order shows that curve from 1997 to 2022. Sport online shut January 2024, so part 7 is the only live game. The series is active through updates, not sequels.
