About Destiny
Destiny spans a decade of shared world shooting: the original game and its four expansions from 2014 to 2016, then Destiny 2 from 2017 through the Light and Darkness saga's close in The Final Shape, plus the Edge of Fate and Renegades chapters that followed.
Play in release order, which is story order. The saga was built live, with each expansion assuming the last, so there is no shortcut cut. Note that much early Destiny 2 content entered the Content Vault and is no longer playable, which the notes below explain plainly.
Good to know
Bungie ended active support in June 2026 after the Monument of Triumph update, with Renegades as the final expansion, though both games remain online and playable. Vaulted campaigns like the original Destiny 2 story cannot be replayed, so new players start mid saga regardless. In 2026 Bungie said vaulted content would return, but nothing has been readded yet.
