About Onimusha
Onimusha began with Capcom's Warlords (2001) about Samanosuke Akechi fighting Nobunaga's Genma with the oni gauntlet. Samurai's Destiny (2002) follows Jubei around the Yagyu village, Demon Siege (2004) brings Samanosuke and Jacques to Paris, and Dawn of Dreams (2006) closes the Soki generation. The Warlords remaster (2018) and Samurai's Destiny remaster (2025) modernized the first two.
Onimusha: Way of the Sword was announced for 2026 with Miyamoto Musashi facing the Genma, reviving the series after twenty years. Capcom positions it as a fresh start reusing the Issen counter system rather than continuing Soki directly.
Good to know
Play Warlords through Dawn of Dreams in release order, since the Nobunaga thread and the gauntlet lore assume the run. The remasters replace the originals as the versions to play with modern controls. Way of the Sword slots last once released in 2026, currently set as the revival rather than a remake.
