About Parasite Eve
Parasite Eve fuses survival horror with RPG combat across three games. The 1998 original traps NYPD officer Aya Brea in a mitochondrial outbreak over six days in Manhattan, with an Active Time battle system no other horror game tried. Parasite Eve II (1999) moves to Los Angeles with a more action-driven style.
The 3rd Birthday (2010) on PSP continues Aya's story under a new name after a licensing tangle, and its time-diving plot divides fans. Play in release order: the story is linear across all three, and the third assumes you know Aya. No fourth game has been announced, so the trilogy is the complete set.
Good to know
The 3rd Birthday drops the Parasite Eve title over a rights dispute but is the direct sequel, so do not skip it as a spin-off. Its ending rewrites parts of the earlier games, which is the main source of fan arguments: go in expecting a divisive finale. The original's New Game Plus Chrysler Building dungeon is the famous post-game, worth knowing about before you finish day 6. A true sequel has been rumored for years but never announced.
