About Risk of Rain
Risk of Rain is a roguelike series from Hopoo Games, now under Gearbox. The 2013 original runs 2D item loops on Petrichor V. Risk of Rain 2 went early access March 2019 and full August 2020 in 3D with co-op. Survivors of the Void DLC followed in 2022 with new survivors.
Returns remade the original November 2023 with new survivors and modes. Hopoo states no new games in development while Gearbox steers. Alloyed Collective coverage points at continued support. Play original first, Returns replays it best after the sequel.
Good to know
Play Risk of Rain, then 2 with Void, then Returns in order. Returns rebuilds the first with sequel lessons, so the original run first shows the growth. Void DLC slots inside the sequel before Returns. Co-op runs all entries. The run is ongoing under Gearbox as of October 2026. Start at the 2013 original.
