About Shadow Hearts
Shadow Hearts grew from Koudelka, Sacnoth's 1999 PlayStation horror RPG about a gypsy medium in a Welsh monastery. Shadow Hearts in 2001 continued with Yuri Hyuga and Alice Elliot in an alternate 1913, introducing the Judgment Ring battle system.
Covenant in 2004 moved to 1915 with Karin Koenig and stood as the series peak, while From the New World in 2005 jumped to 1929 America with Johnny Garland. The four games form one timeline best played in release order. Developer Nautilus closed years ago, so the 2005 entry is the definitive end.
Good to know
Release order is chronological order here. Koudelka sets up the 1898 backstory, then the trilogy runs 1913, 1915 and 1929 in sequence, so nothing needs rearranging. Covenant assumes the good ending of the first game, which the release path delivers naturally. With the studio long closed and rights scattered, no revival is expected.
