Geralt's trilogy
- 1 The Witcher Geralt's first game story, about five years after the book saga ends. PC only, and the announced remake has no date.
- 2 The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings Runs roughly half a year after the first game, with a choice that reshapes its second half.
- 3 The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt The main Wild Hunt story. A free Remastered upgrade arrives September 29, 2026.
Wild Hunt expansions
- 4 The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt - Hearts of Stone A side story that runs alongside the base game and lands better late.
- 5 The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt - Blood and Wine Set after the main story, and a natural goodbye for Geralt.

About The Witcher
The three main games run in sequence, so release order is timeline order: The Witcher (2007), The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings (2011) and The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt (2015). Play Hearts of Stone before Blood and Wine, then Songs of the Past when it lands in 2027. The free Wild Hunt Remastered upgrade arrives September 29, 2026.
The games pick up after Sapkowski's book saga and have no use for the Netflix show. The Witcher IV puts Ciri in the lead and is targeting a 2028 release, the first game of a planned new trilogy.
Good to know
Whether to read the books first is the standard fan argument, and it has no settled answer. Sapkowski's saga gives real context for Yennefer, Ciri and the Elder Blood, but CD Projekt wrote the games to stand alone. The Netflix series adapts the books in its own continuity and shares no plot with the games, so it stays optional here. The Witcher 1 remake is on hold as of September 2026, waiting on Witcher 4's technology, and the multiplayer spin-off Project Sirius is still in pre-production.
