About Vigilante 8
Vigilante 8 arrived June 1998 on PlayStation with Coyotes versus Vigilantes in the mid 1970s oil crisis. Ports hit N64 and Game Boy Color in 1999. Second Offense in December 1999 on PlayStation with Dreamcast, N64 and Japan Battle ports to 2000 continues in September 1977 with time travel framing.
Arcade in November 2008 on Xbox Live remakes the first game in HD with 8 player online. Activision said in October 2000 it had no PS2 plans, and no sequel followed Arcade. Watch 1998, then 2nd Offense, then Arcade as replay. The 2017 framing in part 2 bookends the 1970s war.
Good to know
There is no separate chronological order beyond the 1977 jump, which release order already keeps in place. Arcade repeats the first game with online, so play it after or instead of 1998 with no loss. No third game has been announced as of September 2026, so Arcade from 2008 is the endpoint for now. Start with 1998.
