About Detective Chinatown
Detective Chinatown follows Qin Feng and Tang Ren across Chinatowns in Bangkok, New York and Tokyo, mixing slapstick with locked room cases. The first three films build the duo and the wider detective ranking board. A web series from 2020 adds side cases between films.
Detective Chinatown 1900 arrived in 2025 as a prequel set in San Francisco, so release order and story order now differ. The series is ongoing, with more films likely, which is why release order stays the safest default for new viewers.
Good to know
The 1900 prequel is the only entry that moves in story order, since it shows the Chinatown detective roots decades before Qin Feng. Watch the modern films and the web series first if you want jokes and ranking board reveals as released. Story order puts 1900 first, but that softens the surprise of how the modern duo echoes the past.
