About Knives Out
Rian Johnson writes and directs each Knives Out film around Daniel Craig as detective Benoit Blanc. Knives Out (2019) investigates novelist Harlan Thrombey's death at his Massachusetts estate. Glass Onion (2022) moves to a tech billionaire's Greek island during the pandemic. Wake Up Dead Man (2025) centers on a priest's death tied to a missing inheritance, premiering at TIFF on September 6 before Netflix on December 12.
The cases do not connect. Blanc is the only recurring character, and each ensemble is new, which keeps every entry self-contained even as the budgets and settings grow larger.

Watch in release order for the cleanest experience, since Johnson layers commentary on the mystery genre across the three. Glass Onion assumes no knowledge of the first film beyond Blanc himself, and Wake Up Dead Man works the same way. Johnson has said he wants to keep making Blanc cases, so treat the trilogy as the complete set so far rather than a closed series.
