About Murder Mystery
Murder Mystery (2019) follows NY cop Nick Spitz and wife Audrey on a Europe trip that lands them as suspects in a billionaire yacht killing. It opened June 14, 2019 on Netflix from Kyle Newacheck. Murder Mystery 2 (2023) pulls the now private eyes to Paris for a Maharaja kidnapping, opening March 31, 2023 with the same leads.
Both Happy Madison films play as a straight pair, with the second assuming you know the Clive, the Maharaja and the Spitz agency setup. Adam Sandler and Jennifer Aniston have said they would return, but Netflix has not ordered a third film. Watch in release order, since the honeymoon joke and the agency payoff only land in sequence.
Good to know
Release order matches story order, with the sequel set months after the first agency launch. Do not start with part two, since it reuses suspects and the Vikram debt without recap. Each runs under 100 minutes as a light whodunit, not a Knives Out puzzle. Treat the duology as open, since a third has been discussed but never dated.
