About Guy Hamilton
Guy Hamilton, who died in 2016, started in prison camp drama with The Colditz Story from 1955 before defining the Bond formula with Goldfinger in 1964. Funeral in Berlin from 1966 gives Michael Caine room in a colder spy register, and Battle of Britain from 1969 stages the air war at full scale.
Diamonds Are Forever from 1971 brings Sean Connery back for a Las Vegas plot, then Live and Let Die from 1973 introduces Roger Moore to the role. The Man with the Golden Gun from 1974 and Force 10 from Navarone from 1978 round out the action run. Release order keeps the Bond entries in their proper screen sequence.
Good to know
Hamilton directed four Bond films, and this guide includes all four plus the war and spy pictures that frame them. Funeral in Berlin is the middle Harry Palmer entry, so viewers new to that run may want The Ipcress File first. Years follow original premieres, including the 1964 Goldfinger opening and the December 1978 Force 10 debut.
