About Henri-Georges Clouzot
Henri-Georges Clouzot made his solo directing debut with The Murderer Lives at Number 21 in 1942, then provoked a scandal with Le Corbeau in 1943. After a postwar suspension he returned with Quai des Orfevres in 1947 and Manon in 1949, both mixing crime plots with bleak romance.
The Wages of Fear arrived in 1953 and Les Diaboliques in 1955, the two thrillers that made his name worldwide. La Verite followed in 1960 with Brigitte Bardot, and Woman in Chains closed the run in 1968. Watch the eight in release order, since each film sharpens the same tools of suspicion and pressure.
Good to know
These are standalone stories with no shared continuity, so release order is the viewing order. The unfinished L Enfer from 1964 is not listed, since Clouzot abandoned it for health reasons and it was later filmed by others. His career ended with Woman in Chains in 1968, and he died in 1977, so this guide is complete. Some sources vary on French title spellings, but the years above match standard filmographies.
