Watch Order
0 / 5 watchedCulkin pair first, then the alternates.
About Home Alone
Home Alone began with John Hughes and Chris Columbus in 1990 about Kevin McCallister, played by Macaulay Culkin, rigging the house against the Wet Bandits. Lost in New York (1992) repeats the formula at Christmas with the same cast. Films 3 (1997) and 4 (2002) recast with new kids, and The Holiday Heist (2012) continued on TV before Home Sweet Home Alone (2021) rebooted on Disney Plus.
The Culkin pair shares Harry, Marv and the McCallister lore, while every later film resets with new families. Disney has not dated another entry, leaving the reboot as the current version rather than a continuation.
Good to know
Watch the first two in order as the essential pair, since Marv and Harry's rivalry and Kevin's growth assume both. Films 3 onward work as alternates in any order with their own kids and traps. The reboot borrows the premise sympathetically with the burglars partly justified, safe as a modern extra after the originals.
