About Homeward Bound
The Incredible Journey from November 1963 follows Luath, Bodger and Tao across Ontario. Homeward Bound from February 1993 remakes it with Shadow, Chance and Sassy voiced in the Sierra Nevada, adding a stepfamily plot and voiceovers. Lost in San Francisco from March 1996 is the direct sequel.
The 1963 and 1993 films are the same story, not continuity, with breeds and names changed. The real chain is 1993 into 1996, set three years apart. Watch the 1963 as a standalone extra, then 1993 into 1996 for the actual series. Nothing new has been announced since 1996.
Good to know
Do not watch 1963 then 1993 expecting a sequel. They are remake and original of one trip, so pick one or view 1963 as a curiosity first. The only required order is 1993 then 1996. The sequel assumes you know the three pets and their owners. The trilogy is closed as of September 2026. That is the complete journey.
