About The Naked Gun
Police Squad! aired six episodes on ABC in 1982. Creators Zucker, Abrahams and Zucker rebuilt the spoof as a film with a romantic plot, and Leslie Nielsen returned as Lt. Frank Drebin. The original trilogy runs from The Naked Gun: From the Files of Police Squad! (1988) through 2½: The Smell of Fear (1991) to 33⅓: The Final Insult (1994), with Priscilla Presley as Jane.
The Naked Gun (2025), directed by Akiva Schaffer and produced by Seth MacFarlane, stars Liam Neeson as Frank Drebin Jr. with Pamela Anderson. Paramount released it August 1, 2025, and it grossed about $102 million worldwide. No sequel is greenlit: Neeson called it a one-off in August 2025, and Schaffer said in January 2026 the team was still waiting on Paramount.
Good to know
The sequels use stylized numbering (2½, 33⅓). The 2025 film is a legacy sequel with Neeson playing Drebin's son, so the original three still count. Sequel talk exists but nothing is dated.
